Ken Eastman

Ken Eastman‘s succinctly stated aim is ‘to make things I‘ve never seen before ’. Recent works subvert many expectations of the vessel form, sometimes by a curiously undulating base or the apparent sprung tension of a curved section of wall. Describing the mysterious character of one work the critic Tanya Harrod writes that it ‘ - appears to move and sway, an odd synthesis of pot, eccentric architectural space and passages of colour ’.

Alternative profiles of a piece offer surprising new compositions of form and colour and bring unexpected shifts of mood. He refers to this as making ‘something clashing in tune’. His special ability is to resolve such elements of dissonance and harmony into a formal unity.

Born in 1960, Eastman trained at Edinburgh College of Art and at the Royal College of Art, London. His work is included in public collections in Australia, Japan, Italy, Germany, the Netherlands and the UK. He has received a number of prizes from major international ceramic award exhibitions including the Premio, Faenza in 1995, and a gold medal at the 1st World Ceramic Biennale, Korea in 2001.
