JAMES EVANS
Evans creates abstract, organic ceramic sculptures that are often subtly reminiscent of body parts, yet take this resemblance to boldly humorous levels on many occasions. Surface is as important to Evans as form - he uses lurid colours and shiny metallic glazes, as well as experimenting with rust-like surfaces. Evans first studied ceramics at the Central School of Art and Design in London during the 1980s, then undertook an MA in Fine Arts at the University of Colorado. He has taken part in numerous group shows, most notably Atlantic Crossings at the Barbican Art Gallery (1998), Ripe at the Crafts Council (2000) and COLLECT (2004, 2005). He has had solo exhibitions Galerie Sandra Buergel (2007), Plaisantin at Cosa Gallery, London (2005) and Hypoplastic at Midlands Art Centre, Birmingham (2002). He was short listed for the Jerwood Applied Arts Prize in 2001 and an Arts Foundation Fellowship in 2004. jamesrevans.com
