Richard Slee Enamel Collection

12 January to 17 February 2007

As just a taste of some of the exciting exhibitions and events of the year to come Barrett Marsden begins 2007 with a display of work by its gallery artists on both floors.

There is a special focus on new work by Jerwood prize winning artist Richard Slee, showing the extraordinary results of his recent researches into the craft of enamelling. Here we find Slee magically transforming commonplace things such as builders' trowels and gardeners' tools into surreal, ultra-precious, almost genteel ornamental objects befitting of the Victorian parlour. His imaginative inventions are composed of found objects, ceramic and textile additions, printed image and enamelled colour. No longer possible to ignore, these formerly prosaic tools become the stuff of vivid Technicolor dreams - but their inherent irrationality comes highly charged. From 12 January to 17 February 2007.
